ABOUTBRENT

Brent Gardner at the mountain

Who I Am

STRATEGIST.
BUILDER.
SKIER.

Brent Wm. Gardner grew up in the snowbelt of western New York, where lake-effect storms dumped just enough snow to turn small hills into proving grounds.

Swain Ski Resort was his home mountain -- the place where he spent winters learning to carve, crash, and eventually instruct others in the late 1990s. Those formative years on modest, wind-scoured slopes instilled in him a love for skiing less about glamour and more about community, resilience, and the simple joy of sliding downhill.

That same love of community and strategy drove him into politics -- where he has spent more than two decades building some of the most consequential advocacy organizations in America.

The Full Story

FROM SWAIN
TO THESENATE FLOOR

A career built at the intersection of political power and principled advocacy.

His interest in politics started early in Western New York, leading him to work and volunteer on political campaigns at the local, state, and federal levels. After college, Brent joined the Leadership Institute's Conservative Leadership Program (CLP), specializing in conservative political development on college campuses -- identifying, recruiting, training, and placing conservative students in campus organizations and throughout the public policy arena.

Following the Leadership Institute, Brent accepted a position with the National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action as a national grassroots coordinator, later becoming an NRA state and local lobbyist. During his time at NRA-ILA, he directed grassroots, legislative, electoral, and PAC efforts for 26 states, scoring major victories for gun owners and sportsmen across a wide range of policy objectives.

In 2014, Brent joined Americans for Prosperity as Chief Government Affairs Officer and Senior Vice President -- the role he holds today. In this capacity, he leads AFP's Federal and State government affairs teams, as well as coalition divisions in support of their legislative agenda.

Alongside his life in policy, Brent has chased snow across the country -- from the tight glades of Vermont to the broad, powder-filled bowls of Utah. A knee injury sidelined him for 22 years. He came back with renewed purpose, co-founding Savage Mountain Collective with his wife Heather and launching the DConPiste Substack as a chronicle of his mountain comeback tour.

Skiing is not a hobby to pick up and put down. It is a lifelong conversation with gravity, snow, and the version of yourself you are still trying to become.

-- Brent Gardner, Savage Mountain Collective

The Origin Story

BORN IN THESNOWBELT

A knee injury took skiing away for 22 years. When Brent came back, he built something bigger than himself.

Brent Wm. Gardner grew up in the snowbelt of western New York, where lake-effect storms dumped just enough snow to turn small hills into proving grounds. Swain Ski Resort was his home mountain -- where he spent winters learning to carve, crash, and eventually instruct others in the late 1990s.

A blown knee pulled him away from the sport. When he returned, each run felt like rediscovery -- a reminder that skiing is not just a pastime, but a rhythm, a ritual, and a way of seeing the world. From the tight glades of Vermont to the broad, powder-filled bowls of Utah, he has chased snow across the country.

Out of that passion he founded Savage Mountain Collective -- a media and culture project dedicated to celebrating skiing in all its forms. Co-founded with his wife Heather Gardner (Co-Founder and CTO), SMC has grown into a full podcast, gear review platform, and community for people obsessed with mountains.

Brent now skis with his wife and children, weaving the sport into the fabric of family life -- passing down the traditions, early mornings, shared chairlift rides, and the language of turns that shaped his own youth.
